Chatsworth First Methodist Church is a family of disciples who love deeply, grow faithfully, and make disciples who multiply to transform our community.
Through authentic relationships, intentional discipleship, and a shared mission, we seek to build a Christ-centered culture where love is demonstrated, lives are continually transformed for the glory of God, and faith is multiplied, allowing our community to be increasingly shaped by the transformative power of the Gospel.
Love Deeply: We envision a church empowered by the Holy Spirit and known for its genuine love for God and others. We desire to be a church family where every person is known, unconditionally loved, and invited into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. As we reflect the heart of Christ, we seek to love and serve our neighbors with compassion and grace, meeting their needs and being a visible expression of God’s love in our community. Through our words and actions, we strive to share the hope of the Gospel and demonstrate Christ’s love to all.
Grow Faithfully: We envision a church where people are devoted to growing faithfully as disciples of Jesus Christ and bearing fruit for the Kingdom of God. As a community of believers, we desire a church where all are invited into a relationship with Jesus Christ that transforms every part of life by the grace of God. Together, we seek continual spiritual growth so that our lives increasingly reflect the character of Christ.
Make Disciples: We envision a church that intentionally invests in others, multiplying disciples across generations. Through intentional discipleship and a shared commitment to Christ’s mission, we seek to create a culture where faith is passed on, lives are transformed, and people are equipped to grow in their relationship with Jesus. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we seek to make disciples who make disciples, so that our church, community, and future generations are increasingly shaped by the transforming power of the Gospel.
1. Discipleship and Spiritual Growth
Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
John 15:8 “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”
2. Love
Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
3. Community and Belonging
Acts 2:24-47 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
4. Service and Meeting Needs
Matthew 25:35-36, 40 “‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’… The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
5. Outreach, Evangelism, and Mission
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
6. Welcoming and Hospitality
1 Peter 4:8-9 “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.”
Romans 15:7 “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”
7. Equipping and Raising Leaders
Ephesians 4:11-13 “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
